The travel bucket list – we all have one. For many, that means running off to tour Europe for a week and seeing all the tourist traps. We really aren’t into that – we prefer to travel slowly ad see the out-of-the-way places that many tour buses just blow right past. It is our belief that slow travel is the key to finding travel destinations that do not make it into tourism brochures and glossy magazines but are as special as the destinations on our bucket lists. We’ve lived in some pretty amazing places and hope to live in a few more!
We first started this site back in 2005 with the intention of documenting our stay in Germany. It was the thing to do. We just didn’t realize how much work it would be to keep it up.
We realized shortly after starting the site that we were much more interested in sharing photos of our experiences than writing a bunch of articles so it turned into a photo gallery. Now that Instagram has become the go-to spot for photo sharing, we’ve decided to go another route.
Our Philosophy
We believe every destination has a story to tell and that the journey truly is the destination.
Travel doesn’t need to be fast-paced or exotic to be special, memorable, or meaningful.
We prefer to uncover the unexpected, the unexplored, the underrated – in essence, the hidden gems in our world. Whether we find those hidden gems in bustling cities or tiny rural villages; we want to hear their stories, see their sites, find the unexpected, and share it all with you.
About Us
Who are we? Well, we’re Dwayne and Heather Tanner, a couple who met online back in 2003 and were married about a year later. When we first met, we each brought kids to the family and we made a nice life for ourselves. The majority of those kids are grown now but their photos may pop up in our collections from time to time. We will refrain from identifying them in photos as much as possible. The kids are all interwoven very tightly with our story as a family. You may see us mention them from time to time. Sorry kids. It happens.
